The London Plane Tree (Platanus × hybrida) is an iconic deciduous shade tree known for its majestic form, large maple-like leaves, and unique mottled bark. Highly adaptable and fast-growing, this hybrid between the Oriental Plane and American Sycamore is a favourite in urban landscaping across Australia.

Reaching up to 20–25 metres in height with a broad, symmetrical canopy, the London Plane provides excellent summer shade and seasonal interest with golden autumn foliage. Its bark naturally exfoliates to reveal a patchwork of creamy white, olive, and tan, adding striking texture to streetscapes and gardens.

Platanus × hybrida thrives in full sun and tolerates a variety of soils, including urban and compacted ground. It's resilient to pollution, wind, and brief drought, making it ideal for large gardens, parks, avenues, and boundary plantings where structure and shade are desired.
